Betting big draws postflop, the right play?
David Sklansky suggests you should bet and raise with big draws on the flop, especially flush draws with overcards or straight draws with overcards...Is this a good play? Have any of you had success playing like this in .5/1 or 1/2? any suggestions for online play would help!

Re: Betting big draws postflop, the right play?
Say you have nut-flush draw and you're in the last position on the flop. You get your draw by the river 35% percent of time. If there's four player on the flop including you. So your share is 25%. Then you must try to build up to pot for value. Because your equity edge is 35%/25% = 1,4 -> 40%. Every dollar you put in the pot you make 40% interest in the long run.
I.E. on the flop sb bets, bb calls, and mp1 calls, you must raise for a value. But if your position is BB and sb bets, yous should not raise if you drive out the mp1 and button. Or your share of the pot will be 50% instead of 25%. Read great post by SixForty for more information of equity value betting: http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showfl...part=1&vc=1 |

Re: Betting big draws postflop, the right play?
Pumping the flop with bid draws is definitely a winning strategy. The mathematics are inarguable; if you're only a 2:1 underdog and you're getting action from two or more players, you theoretically make money on ever dollar that goes in on the flop.
Obviously it is not a simple as just automatically betting/raising every time you flop a flush draw. If the guy on your right leads into you, you want to think twice before you raise and hit the field with two cold. And if you're in the blinds you'll often want to check rather than risk getting raised by an early position player and knocking a bunch of people out. With experience, you'll develop a good feel for the sorts of flops you can bet at with a big draw vs. flops that you don't need to lead at. |

Re: Betting big draws postflop, the right play?
This strategy has 2 sides.
1) It s a HU or 3 way pot and you think they players are likely to fold marginal hands if u show a lot of aggression. The reason you bet and raise there is because of the fold equity. Also another reason u raise when last to act is to get a free card on the turn. 2) Multiway pots. You raise for value. Many people misplay this by playing it fast and knocking people out. There s no fold equity, raise to build the pot. Thats where relative position comes in, unless ure last to act or the cutoff you should just call and let others call behind. So yeah its an important concept, but only profitable when used properly. |
