Bilke, Commerce & Hollywood Park
I live in the UK and planning on spending 4-5 days in LA
before Vegas. Want to play at the above casinos and go racing at Hollywood Park. Where would be my best base be for staying (Commerce? Hotel) and how far apart are they (can I get taxis). Any other info, appreciated, I play any tournaments and 5/10, 10/20 nl and pot-limit omaha. |

Re: Bilke, Commerce & Hollywood Park
Commerce and Bike are < 10 minutes apart by cab - 5 min if the cab goes quick - no major freeways to get on

Re: Bilke, Commerce & Hollywood Park
Hollywood Park is a long ways away from Commerce, though Commerce and Bike are quite close.
I suggest: Commerce The Bike The Hustler Hawaiian Gardens However, H.Gardens is a bit of a treck. Hollywood park is about 40 minutes from Commerce, and probably a $40 cab ride each way. There is a light rail train that goes more or less between Hustler and Hollywood park. AB |

AB [/ QUOTE ] Well, the problem is that OP wants to see some racing, so he has to go to HP. Unless there's a flat rate, I'm thinking that a cab ride is a lot more than that - I mean, a cab ride from LAX to Santa Monica is like $32 one way and that's way shorter than to Commerce. I am mostly a 6/12 LHE and 4/8 LOHL player at B&M's, so I can't comment on the particulars of the games that OP wants to play, but if the NL games play like the limit games, you will LOVE the action at any of the places that have been mentioned with the very notable exception of Hustler, where I have found mostly rocks vs. the huge fish that dominate the other places. I don't know about the rest of you, but I really don't care about any specifics of where I play cards other than the variety and fishiness of games. This is especially true in LA, where none of the cardrooms are in particularly nice areas, and none of them have the scenery of Vegas. I guess Hustler is probably closest to the Vegas experience, but that's like saying that Hot Wheels is closer to a real car than Matchbox, if you catch my drift. I guess what I'm saying is, if you plan to go to HP for a significant amount of time, and you don't feel like spending a ton of time in a cab for what essentially amounts to the same experience, you might as well just stay near the beach and just localize yourself at HP and possibly Hustler (there are better tournaments there). Then you can have a better LA experience outside of the casino too. Again though, take what I'm saying with a grain of salt - if someone here that plays the same games as OP knows that one place is particularly juicier than the others, by all means make your HQ there. |

Re: Bilke, Commerce & Hollywood Park
If you stay at Commerce and play 10/20 NL or bigger and tip the floorguys a little bit, you can probably be driven around in the Commerce cars, definitely to the Bike and probably further.

[/ QUOTE ] For your time in Los Angeles, I suggest you rent a car from the Airport. Taxis will run a huge amount. If you are traveling without a family, the Commerce should be fine. If family is in tow, why not either stay near the Beach or down near Anaheim, Buena Park near the major amusement parks. It about a twenty minute drive to Commerce/Bike from Anaheim during off peak traffic. |

What's the big deal? They're major boulevards and you're traveling 40 MPH in a large, locked piece of steel. |

Driving into the Hollywood Park parking lot is infinitely more dangerous than driving through Commerce and Bell. |
