I've never been around when Pinnacle opens the movie lines before, so I was curious as to whether the lines are typically this far off when they first open, or whether this was a rare event based upon bad information. If they are typically this far off, I might have to start taking these more seriously.

This is a lot more comparable to South Park than it is to Snakes on a Plane. South Park did a 9.5k adjusted PTA in 2100 theaters, rated R, loved by critics. Don't see how this couldn't do 15k PTA in 800 considering the average theater will be much larger.

But then again I like the + odds I get.

What "adjusted" rate are u using?

I was using The-Numbers site which reports a 14.77 for the weekend and a 6.9k PTA. But their weekend chart for that one is wonky, I guess because of July 4th. So while that is incorrect/too high, the BOM is not useful since it portrays it too low.

South Park opened strongly on Wednesday (with a higher gross than Friday).

Also, the "adjustment" is inflation. Average ticket price was 5 bucks in '99, whereas today it's $6.50.

No it's correct I am guessing (and the-numbers is wrong), but the point is that it's not painting the whole picture. South Park opened on Wednesday, and that is just showing Friday - Sunday. In fact South Park's Wednesday was bigger than its Friday, which indicates that were it to open on Friday instead of Wednesday, it would've done much, much better for the weekend.

I think you can find the website on your own man (hint: add a .com to the end).
