Trying to get back into chess, any thoughts on what the best websites are for playing chess and for analysis?
I don't mind paying for a membership so long as the site is decent. -Diplomat |

I'm actually interested in this info, too.
Anyone know what the 2 + 2 site in the chess world is? Steve |

I think the better ones are pay sites (play/discussion combo), but I could be wrong.

I am somewhat biased in favor of ICC at chessclub.com for
playing chess, especially blitz. It's probably not a good site if you aren't close to expert level or better though, but you'll probably see many grandmasters visit the site in one day. For information, I like chessbase.com. I don't know of any good chess forums, unfortunately, even though I know the admin of a chess site that often posts there. |

ICC is pretty much the site for playing chess.

Novice Nook on chesscafe.com is good, I think.
And even if you're n00b, play at ICC. |

Both chessgames.com and chesscafe.com are good. As far as playing, ICC is good for live games and gameknot.com is good for correspondence games (and free).

Thanks for the posts. I'll probably sign up at ICC, seems steep but meh. I'm playing right now at chessworld.net as a non-registered player, which is ok, but lacks resources and you can't be ranked until you pay the fee.
I'm definitely a noob at chess, well, in the sense that I've played for years but never really put in any serious thought about the game. -Diplomat |
