I\'ve got an overpair - but with 55??
Hi,
So the following hand came up last night and I felt a little lost.. Pretty sure I made the right move (moves?) although I would welcome comments about the flop play - I think a fold may be in order since there's one player behind me but I'm not too sure. Don't have the exact hand cos I'm at work but here goes: 9 handed NL $0.5/$1 Here is MP - dealt: [5, 5] One limp, Hero limp, CO limps, SB raises to $5, one fold, Hero calls, CO calls. Flop: 2 ,3, 3 (two clubs) Pot ~ $19 SB bets $10, Hero calls, CO calls Turn: 2 (still two clubs) Pot ~ $49 SB bets $20, Hero folds, CO folds. Thoughts? SB has $100 ish, CO has $90 ish and I cover both. Both SB and CO are fairly tight and seem to be competent players. SB doesn't seem too tricky (been playing 30 mins or so and I haven't seen any bluffs or moves shown down). CO is also quite tight but is a bit tricky and has re-raised light a few times (especially in position) but generally seems competent. Once the second 2 hits I'm a little lost as I feel SB may well be betting an A here but with CO in the pot I think it's hard for me to call. All feedback welcome! T

If it were heads-up I'd generally call once and then see what he does on the turn.
But when a guy raises into a big field and then bets the flop he usually has what he's representing (a big pair) unless he is totally stupid.

The flop bet could easily be a c-bet (especially since it's for about half the pot). Do you not think that a good amount of the time we're up against AK?

Hmm, I mis-read the hand.
The flop is only 3-handed, I thought there were more players for some reason. This is why using a converter makes thing easier to see. Being 3-handed makes calling a lot closer. I still lean towards folding, as your pair is really low, and you aren't closing the action.

Anyone else got any thoughts on this?
Would appreciate all feedback as I'm still not sure what the right line is here. I'm leaning towards a fold on the flop since there's one player left to act but a call/raise if it's heads up? Thanks T PS - sorry haven't had a chance to format it properly yet

I don't like calling the flop here. Most likely an overcard will hit the turn and you don't know what to do. So in my opinion you have two possibilities:
A) You intended playing 55 for set-value. So: fold on the flop! B) You want the pot: Raise to 60$ to protect and announce your holding, collect information and drive CO out of the hand. If I get called I'd be almost done with the hand but very often you're able to check down the turn and river if he has high cards or a weak pair. As you were giving him credit for being a good player I think I would stick to plan A and fight another day.
