wow, these responses are terrible! I have lived in Henderson for almost a year now. Having lived in 6 states in the last 6 years (Hyde Park NY, New Orleans, Atlanta, L.A., Lahaina HI, and now here) I've never seen a place I'd be happier raising a family than here. Henderson is a good clean city, little traffic, well kept parks with AMAZINGLY nice grass considering the weather, my impression is that the schools here are pretty good, and neighborhoods are full of young families or twenty somethings. Not to mention the outdoor opportunities offered by Red Rock Canyon, Mt Charleston, Lake Mead, and if you count two hours away, Zion national park. We even have our own minor league baseball team. Really I could not ask for anything else from a city for raising children.

in my short time in HENDO i have to agree with the cook here. i see TONS of kids/families when i venture out and they seem to be fit and happy.

I meant but didn't say when I posted that we sould probably live in one of the nicer suburbs. I didn't think we'd live within the city necessarily.

I've been through Henderson when we were there last. Seemed like most suburban areas I've been in.

As far as some of the other questions - I could probably make $1-2K a week playing poker if I played 3 nights a week. That's a pretty decent amount of $, even considering my salary range, so its definitely worth it $ wise.

But the $$ don't matter so much if its a crap place to live. (Case in point, I can make really good $$ as a Software developer in SF or LA but I don't want to.) Our son is going to be going to school in 1.5 years, so we need to find a place to live that we can live well, and yet give our son good opportunities for education.

Thanks - Brian

Glad I saw this before posting "why not move to Si Valley and play at Bay101?"

If I could seclude my children to the nice parts of Henderson, I'd go for it CSC, but the reality is that isn't going to happen as they get older. And the rest of that area is complete dogshit. I don't know about you, but I'd want a smaller, safe city where I can feel safe with my kids walking home from school with friends. Even in areas of Henderson, there are some [censored] crazies wandering around.

I would just never raise a family in a big city, others obviously do.

Moving from Hawaii to Vegas will kill you.
you are safer living in southern California by the ocean.

Yeah I'd have to give a vote for LA, or slightly south. Much better for families, and probably many more job opportunities as well. Plus, there are a fair amount of casinos in LA and surrounding area.

No jobs in Hawaii, no poker in Hawaii. I'm actually in Upstate NY right now and THAT is killing me. We're thinking of taking a trip out to Vegas to see what areas we'd want to be in. Sounds like Henderson/Summerlin get at least some recommendations. Any particular areas that are decent?
