Default Preparing my car for winter

From California but I study outside Boston. Apparently I need to prepare my car for winter. Ive heard about anti-freeze but how urgent is this? Do I need to have this done ASAP? Can I just go to any garage and they will do it for me for a small fee?

Anything else I need to know? Thanks

you don't have to go to a garage for anti freeze. just buy some at wal-mart. make sure to wash your car in the winter. this prevents corrosions from the salt on the road.
