Is this a standard variation?
Pokerstars 1000NL. (5/10)
Hero in SB with QQ and a 3K stack, has been running hot and is on a pot winning streak. Still he is not a crazy preflop reraiser. UTG+1 has 2K. UTG has less than 1K. Not much info on players, they've been fairly tight. UTG raises to 30. UTG+1 calls. Everyone folds to HERO who reraises to 180 with QQ. UTG folds. UTG+1 raises to 488 after a long pause. HERO scratches head, turns into a fish and pushes. UTG+1 instacalls with AA and wins a 4K pot. HERO says "nh", meaning it, feeling trapped and stupid. My qestion: how un-standard is that? Is smooth calling with AA at this limit and in this position profitable because of the deception factor, or is it the best way to get stacked by people with position and suited connectors or small pairs? Thanks for your input. manub |

Re: Is this a standard variation?
Gross in which way? UTG+1's play, Hero's play, both ?

Re: Is this a standard variation?
Pushing QQ in that spot without a very good reason is extremely gross.

Re: Is this a standard variation?
if you call, pot is ~1k on the flop, utg+1 has 1.5k behind, what flops are you gonna be happy about (obv bar Qxx)? by raising and then calling you identify yourself with a handrange that he can play pretty well against, he has position, I just can't see it getting any better for you after the flop?

Re: Is this a standard variation?
Eeewwwww, this is such an AA-line (for bad players but still) that it wouldn't cross my mind 4betting.
Prolly fold cause i feel calling i risk a lot to win little. |
