Full Tilt Omaha/8 SNG
I've only played 2 of these things (very new to omaha/8), but it seems like the blinds go up way too fast for a tight player like myself (VP$IP 13% at cash games) to profit at these things. The first one I played in, some guy hit a miracle K [img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] on the river, completing his royal flush and cracking my quad jacks, and in the second tournament, I folded my first 29 hands (No joke, I know this is bad, but the cards were truly horrible) but I ended up cashing in 3rd place. I'm pretty confident in my talent over these guys, but the speed of blinds is killing me... I'm doing great at cash games but don't have many hands under my belt (BB/100 at 12.50 after 450 hands). I enjoy tournaments, but should I just stick to cash games?

VPIP OF 13?!?!?!?!!?
wowowowow...u need to get that up my friend. is this PLO8 or LO8? PLO8 SNGs tend to go pretty fast (Players b4 blinds...at least from back when i was playing them)...if its LO8...then i cant really help you. let us know which style of O8 ur playing...that changes everything |

seems like the blinds go up way too fast for a tight player like myself [/ QUOTE ]Polo Player - I haven't played in any SNGs, but I've played in lots of tournaments. [ QUOTE ] VP$IP 13% at cash games [/ QUOTE ]Does VP$IP mean "voluntarily put dollars in pot"? If so, 13% is very, very tight. How tightly are your opponents collectively playing? At any rate, tight is good for tournaments, but I agree that when the blinds go up too fast, especially if you're a tight player, you get caught with a short stack too soon, and then your blind comes around and you're forced to gamble. [ QUOTE ] I enjoy tournaments, but should I just stick to cash games? [/ QUOTE ]I'd advise you to avoid SNGs or tournaments where the blinds escalate too rapidly. Try to find tournaments where the blinds don't go up too fast. Trouble is, 13% is too tight for the live casino ring games in which I play. Some of my opponents are dummies, but most of them are not. If you only play 13%, they'll figure out what range of hands you must be playing and play you accordingly. But maybe you can get away with 13% multi-tabling it on line. Doesn't sound like much of a pleasant way for me to spend my time, but to each his own. Buzz |

Re: Full Tilt Omaha/8 SNG
I haven't played any SNGs but I'll assume that the fast rising blinds cause most players to quickly become short stacked. So the nature of the game will be different from your typical loose cash game.
Hand values are different in a tight/aggressive Omaha/8 than in a loose game. In a loose game the winning high and low hands will be the nuts or close to it. When most pots are only two or three handed on the flop, the nuts will be turned over less often. You still want a hand that can scoop by having both high and low potential. But often a fairly weak high will be enough to win that half of the pot. |

Re: Full Tilt Omaha/8 SNG
Like I said, I've only logged 450 cash game hands, so my VP$IP might be a little off. Until I looked at pokertracker yesterday, I honestly had no idea that I was that tight.

Re: Full Tilt Omaha/8 SNG
With quickly increasing blinds there is way too much luck in limit O8 Sng's. You can have a much larger edge in these by developing your skills at PL.

Re: Full Tilt Omaha/8 SNG
450 hands is not a large enough sample for your preflop statistic to be significant. The number of hands you were not in an unraised blind position is smaller still.
