5/10 Disguised overpair OOP facing all in reraise on the turn
Villain has played LAG and has been seen blufing all in on the river with nothing. Hero has played a tight game and got lucky against Villain in an previous all in pot (open ended straight flush draw vs set, all in on the flop, draw hits).
(Sorry about the format, I tried using the FTR converter but for some reason it didn't work). PokerStars Holdem No Limit ($5/$10) Table Tergeste 6-max Seat #4 is the button Seat 1: UTG ($2107 in chips) Seat 2: UTG+1($742.45 in chips) Seat 3: Villain ($1817.75 in chips) Seat 4: Button ($1964 in chips) Seat 5: Hero (SB)($2297.25 in chips) Seat 6: BB ($1213 in chips) *** HOLE CARDS *** Dealt to Hero [ J[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] J[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] ] UTG: folds UTG+1: folds Villain: raises $30 to $40 Button: folds Hero: calls $35 BB: folds *** FLOP *** [ 4[img]/images/graemlins/diamond.gif[/img] 6[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 9[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] ] Hero: checks Villain: bets $70 Hero: raises $100 to $170 Villain: calls $100 *** TURN *** [ 7[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] ] Hero: bets $220 Villain: raises $1387.75 to $1607.75 and is all-in manub: folds Is my fold too weak or is it likely I'm beaten here? I felt like the reraise is too big to be losing to one pair (after all I'm representing top pair and Villain says he can beat top pair. Looks like all I can really beat is TT). Any opinions on how I played the hand? (you know, besides "badly"...) Thanks guys, manub |

Re: 5/10 Disguised overpair OOP facing all in reraise on the turn
It's kind of important how villain bluffed in the hand you mentioned (was it dumb or a smart bluff that didn't work this time?). But just off info given I'd assume villain isn't a hyper-agrro donk and say fold. Also I'm not a huge fan of the flop CR on paper, but it could be good assuming certain history/timing/table conditions.

Re: 5/10 Disguised overpair OOP facing all in reraise on the turn
It was your typical "go all in with K high 'cause my opponent showed weakness by calling on the turn and checking on the river and the pot is worth stealing". Nothing too fancy. (The bluff worked, villain showed). The fact that the bluff was showed was also something that encourages folding IMO.

Re: 5/10 Disguised overpair OOP facing all in reraise on the turn
Re-raise preflop especially if he's playing LAG and we are OOP.
Flop c/r is horrible c/c or lead is better, JJ isn't going to win a huge pot so no reason to inflate the pot like that. Your weak turn bet means he could be bluffing, but it's a fold. If he really is pushing a lot with nothing here then just wait for a better hand and stack him. |

Re: 5/10 Disguised overpair OOP facing all in reraise on the turn
Reraise preflop for the above mentioned reasons.
I hate c/r with just one pair when we have no idea what villian has. If villian is a thinking player and is capable of floating then you get yourself into a world of trouble with the c/r, as it simply builds the pot with only one pair. |
