OK. I called and he had 88 for a river set. I'm not sure how I could avoid it either.

OK, I had $400 left on the river, and the pot was roughly $380. I didn't want to lose value, as you said smeyers, but also didn't want to force a fold with an overbet (not sure if he's the big call type).

I bet out 200, and he pushed. Easy call?

This, as I'm sure you know is why you raise more on the turn. You can just stick it all in comfortably on the river without having to worry about what he's going to do. His play looks like QQ or something like that up until the river when he raises, but you are getting like 3:1 to call so I think you have to stick the extra 200 in there.

While I do agree that raising the turn looks more effective, my reasoning for the small raise is that I have a pretty powerful hand on the turn, and didn't really want to lose him. I had him on an overpair, or AT, which would fold a fair amount of the time to a big turn checkraise.

You really think if he calls ANY turn CR with 88 he is going to fold an overpair to a bigger one?? Also, your hand isn't that powerful; the draw is nice but bottom two is fragile as hell.
