Tennenbaum,

This sounds like the same thing that happened to me, but my letter was pretty unambiguous. I find it's sometimes awkward explaining why I can't give blood (there were always people aggressively recruiting for drives at my college).

yeah def. me too. Uh, false positive on the HIV test makes people look at you funny. I just tell them the truth (I have weird blood cell thing) Oh well. It is a real bummer though.

You know, I'd have to look at the letter again (i saved it) maybe it was unambiguous and I just freaked seeing it. Totally possible. I am a girl and overrun by emotion instead of logic. [img]/images/graemlins/wink.gif[/img]

Josh,

It's entirely possible that this is the way one of his ex-partners is notifying your friend that the ex-partner herself (or himself) has ABC.

nurse: sir, are you mentally prepared for the news you are about to get?

her: no sir, i just have to ask that, you are negative across the board.

So I got tested and they told me they'd call in the next 5 - 10 days if I tested positive for anything. If I don't hear from them, that means I'm clean.

Day 7 I get a phone call from them. I'm sitting there looking at my caller ID thinking "[censored] [censored] [censored], please be bacterial, please be bacterial." But no, it's just them calling saying they screwed up my tests and I need to come in again. Came out scot free, thank god. I'll never forgive them though for calling me on day 7 to tell me they screwed up the tests.

My ex-gf tested positive for HIV after I had been dating her for 9 months. Turns out something like 70% of initial positives are false positives due to the low rate of HIV in our society, the sheer number of HIV tests and the margin of error in the test.

Still, that was a long week.

The first girl i ever had sex with told me she tested positive for hepatitis C a few months after we broke up. It was an error the doctor made when she went to give blood.
