LaRussa, Torre, Cox, Leyland?

I'm a Mets fan too lol, so I'll throw a joke in that Torre will make a nice statue in the Hall and probably could continue to coach in the Yankee dugout as one as nobody would know the difference.

I don't think any of them are locks, though. They're more n the perhaps/probably range. One would think Torre would have the best chance, as he was a good player and has won 4 World Series. LaRussa's chances might increase slightly by tomorrow. Leyland is a "no" career-to-date.

No way they get in (IMO): Sosa

[/ QUOTE ]

Stop posting.

[/ QUOTE ]

Sosa will be the first casualty of the steroid era. He was a good hitter until 1998, when he busted out. The BBWA are not complete idiots (only partial idiots), but they are going to make him an example. Sosa had three good years (not great years) prior to his 'roided out era. Testing came in and he was done as a hitter. The writers are gonna see that and lord it over him. He may get in through the veterans committee at some point, but I don't believe the BBWA will vote him in, despite 588 home runs.

[/ QUOTE ]

With roids AND a corked bat how could he not hit 588 home runs?

bonds is an underdog to get in first ballot according to sportsbook.com:

Barry Bonds - Elected to MLB Hall of Fame on 1st Ballot

No 2-3
Yes 11-10

it's hard to say that he's a lock when this is the case. if the best player of the era isn't a lock, who can we say really is?

~four years ago, espn did a bit on this. they selected only 12 players, and three of them i would say are still not locks: sammy, biggio, and alomar. who knows how people will be looking at the stats from this era 5-10 years from now?

Guys saying Walker, Sheff, Helton, Chipper, Andruw, Ichiro, Schilling, Vlad.
Would you say that the they have a 90% chance of making the HOF? If so I would love to make a bet with you. Unfortunately it could take 15-25 years to find the results in some cases.

[/ QUOTE ]

He's not a lock either, but I'd give at least one guy not mentioned at all on this thread as of yet (Larkin) a better chance than at least 6 of those guys.

Jeter's career line. Is this a lock HoF line? I'm sure playing SS for the NYY helps. Probably is, anyone want to take the other side of this?

Cox/Torre/LaRussa are locks. All of them are in the top 10 in wins - every other manager in the top 10 is in, as well as all but 5 retired managers in the top 25.

In the wins above .500 stat, 1-17 are in. Cox is 3rd, LaRussa 13th, and Torre 18th.

LaRussa has 1 WS and 4 appearances, and will be remembered for the innovation of the closer.

Cox has 1 WS and 5 apperances, and will be remembered for the long division run. I imagine he'll be elected with Schuerholz and Mazzone.

Torre has the playing career which should have got him in already, as well as the Yankee dynasty.

In an ideal world, Larkin would be a lock.

Meh, I don't think he'd be a lock if he was the same player for Kansas City. Only 2 MVP type seasons, consistently one of the worst defenders at his position, etc.
