"I guess the Hollywood might have bought you a bluff-raise"

Mike's general appearance, and style of play, can augment the effect.

And I mean both of those things as a compliment, Mike.

In live play with people who you haven't played with before, your general appearance, mannerisms, and demeanor sometimes go a long way towards how your play is perceived.

I have never seen a "hollywood" better than what Mike L can bring to the table.

The flop call is marginal. If I did have a heart I'd certainly call, without it, I'd probably fold 60-70% of the time.

Given that you didn't, I'd prefer a turn c/r (and betting any river). You just aren't getting any better hands to laydown to a turn donk. If she checks through the turn, you can re-evaluate on the river. I'm sure your turn donk wasn't to prevent her from taking a free card.

it sure looked that way though. the turn bet wasnt for me, it was for her.

i feel like this lets A high get to showdown easily and it looks like a semibluff. donk turn=made hand, turn c/r=semibluff. also it opens me up to being 3 bet on the turn and possibly folding a 6 outer.

I just don't think you have much chance of moving her off A-high. To me the turn donk smells much fishier than a turn c/r. If you play a lot of made hands this way and Terri knows it, that's one story. Remember, you don't have to try to win every pot.

I cant believe anyone recommended check/calling the river.

It's probably as, if not more often going to get bluff raised than it is that you'll pick up a bluff bet after checking to them in my opinion.

You'll just get value bet by all the hands that would have called your river bet basically, and pay one less bet when you're behind.

Checking tells her that you're weak but you want to show down. If you had nothing to show down, you'd bet/fold.

And how in hte [censored] world can anyone narrow a supposedly good 1/2 players preflop 3bet range against someone opening in the CO to big pairs or big aces? God no. You're doing damn well against her range at the river. Especially if she's good. (i was going to write this before results were posted)

re: Hollywooding: On the flip side of things, the worst Hollwooding that I have seen in ages was from John Bonetti in a 30-60 game at bellagio this past weekend.

He is in the bb and calls a preflop raise. Head up. Flop is 883 rainbow. Checkcall. Turn is a Jack and Boneti shakes his head in a disgusted manner. Why someone would be disgusted at a jack coming off in this spot is beyond me. But it apparently was enough to fool the PFR as he bets and in one fell swoop, here comes the $120 shot from Bonetti. His acting was so bad that I started laughing at the table.

I've been playing since 1978 and I've never beaten a guy shaking his head in disgust. Never.

Default Why I did it!

[ QUOTE ]
the turn bet is great because you extract another bet out of her when you river a king or queen when she would have checked behind.

[/ QUOTE ]

When he doesn't I win.

All1N post a fold for KQ can't be right on the river. 95% + of the time you get raised on the river by a non-donk is the hand good?

I just felt the turn bet was bologna and waited for the river to raise no matter what came. My decision was made on the turn not the hollywood river. He won but, was going to have to catch. That is one reason the fold on the flop is good, besides getting tangled up w/ KQ vs. AK or AQ. He had me beat but, it didn't mean I couldn't try to win.
