Re: Ask Force1 about Realtor.com
[ QUOTE ]
1. How do you get your listings? [/ QUOTE ] There are things called MLS (Multiple Listing Service) this is basically a computer system that Realtors put listings into. It sort of like Realtor.com but for a small specific area. We have an agreement with all the MLS's in the country that allows us to pull their information automattically from their computer systems. This is why any property that is sold/expires/or has an offer on it automattically gets pulled down off Realtor.com. When the agent marks it as sold on the MLS our system will auto-remove the listing. [ QUOTE ] 2. Are they proprietary, meaning, can a third party use the listings to give away? [/ QUOTE ] I am not entirely sure waht this question means. [ QUOTE ] 3. Sort of branching off of 2, would it be possible for another company to setup their own portal and provide your listings to their customers? Do you know of any companies who currently do this, and if so, how the arrangement works...as in, do they pay you or what? [/ QUOTE ] We do allow many websites to be 'powered' by Realtor.com meaning they have all of our information. AOL, MSN, NetZero,Juno,WSJ.com and some others are all 'powered' by Realtor.com. We allow them to do this for free because it is a selling point to our customers when trying to sell them on our products. We can tell them that not only will their listing look better on Realtor.com but also on our website distrubution network. |
