all,

i'm of the opinion that turkey should be either shaved, or sliced off a bird - actually resembling food, but never deli thick cut. opinions?

thick or thin is all a personal preference. I'd image sliced off the bird would be the equivalent of broken up thick slices.

RJ,

If only you hadn't forgotten the slice of swiss cheese.

OP, you've inspired me. Here is my sandwich trip report.

I woke up at about 2 pm and was in the mood for a really good sandwich. I almost went out to the deli to buy one, but then I thought of this thread and decided to make myself the most kick-ass sandwich I could.

I decided to go with roast beef and swiss on a toasted baguette. I went to the fruit store to grab avocados and tomatoes, but they had [censored] tomatoes, so I’ll have to improvise later. I don’t usually put avocados on sandwiches, but OOT seems to like them, so here we go.

I put the baguette in the broiler to toast it, then got a phone call. Then I smelled something burning. [censored].

You can’t really tell from the pic, but the bread did catch fire. That was my last baguette, so looks like we’re gonna have to go with a triple-decker.

When the toast goes in, I also put the roast beef, topped with swiss cheese in the microwave. Nuked it 60 seconds, but next time will only do 45.

I popped 3 slices of bread and then got to work on the ingredients. Note how I scoop out the avocado rather than slice and peel. I am totally ready for my own Food Network show.

I wasn’t able to get a tomato, so I will have to use some jarred roasted tomatoes. Also pictured is the jar of pickled jalapeño slices. These will come in later.

The tomatoes are packed in oil, and are a little greasy, so I usually lay them out on some paper towels before using them. I have a pic of this, but it looks like a pile of bright red [censored] on a napkin, so I will not post it. I like to cut the avocados into non-uniform pieces.

I take the beef and cheese, and cut it in half. Half goes on the first slice of toast, followed by the roasted tomatoes, avocados, and jalapeño slices.

Salt and lemon-pepper, then the middle slice of bread. I repeated the ingredients in the same order on this half, but left off the jalapenos.

I had it with a couple of polish dill pickles, and an ice cold Brooklyn Lager served in a chilled glass. Bitter beers made with lots of hops like Brooklyn Lager are really good with a hearty sandwich.

mmmmmmmmm

something was wrong though. It was definitely missing something.

Added some White Wine mustard and it was now perfect.

Awesome. Nice pics. I especially like the smoke in the oven. [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

I think it's important that every trip-report in this thread involves something being charred beyond edible.

Tony - sandwich looks awesome, is roast beef Boar's Head? It looks really tasty (and not dried out at all, considering you nuked it).
