I had a chat earlier. Just to reiterate some points made above and some new points you might be wondering about:

- they said all bets stand and will not be cancelled

- peer-to-peer betting is allowed (sports exchange and poker), so they are clearly interpretting things differently than some other firms (for now)

- if they close out the US entirely they assured me players would be able to cashout (unlike at some other books that claim they cannot allow withdrawals)

Casino = closed
Sportsbook = closed
Poker = open
Sports exchange = open

At least for now. And they *claim* they "Sincerely hope to reinstate and enhance our product range available to US-based Members in the near future."

The loss of the sportsbook hurts for the teasers, but otherwise the exchange was better in every way. It doesn't sound like accounts are in any jeopardy, I feel comfortable that money is safe, and pending wagers will be honored. All in all I think this isn't too bad, though we'll have to see how traffic in the exchange is affected.

Yeah and the exchange is probably going to die.

Damn, in the 2 teasers I made, I lost $7.

Seriously though....why are they keeping poker open but not the sportsbook? It is because of the gambling bill, right? Cause some people (ie Performify) have said the bill targets poker, not sports.

They appear to be taking a different interperetation than most sites. Mansion's logic appears to focus around the language "The business of accepting wagers," as the definition of illegal gambling, and so is keeping their services that merely facilitate p2p wagers (poker and the exchange).

Major misconception #1

The NFL was behind this.

Untrue. The NFL simply made sure that there was a fantasy sports exception.

Major misconception #2

This law targets poker, not sportsbetting.

False. This law targets games of chance (poker, casino games), and ALSO has explicit language for betting on the outcome of events that have pointspreads, etc.

Thing is, us sportsbettors were cooked before with the Wire Act, so this didn't really change the legal landscape for us.
