the medium well was a little less cooked than most other steaks I have, but it was very good. The steak is a little more cooked on the outside at Wolfgang's too (i.e. a little crisp), which I happen to like.

medium well at a nice stakehouse is the equiv of california roll at a sushi joint.

nice avatar...nice review.

Just to reiterate- went there this summer and it was VERY good. My friends and I also got the seafood appetizer for 4 which was a ton of food but well worth it.
Like OP said the bacon was surprisingly AWESOMELY good. And the steak (which you have to get RARE btw) was very very good.

Definitely recommend going there.

ummm why are you ordering medium or *gasp* meduim well? The flavor is gone by the time it hits the table. You gonna hit big time steak houses then order like an schnook? You gotta be kiding me.

Gotta be MR or rare, or black and blue.

GIVE RAW MEET A CHANCE!!

that is all

Thanks for the trip report, it's always nice to have a rundown on restaurants in the NY area, as it can be overwhelming for a visitor.

If possible, it would be nice if you were to rate the steak on a 1-10 scale, so when you hit the other steak joints, we'd have a comparison.

Thanks again, and look forward to more TRs.

I should have clarified that we actually got both medium and medium well (the 4 ladies at the table wanted medium well - yeah we all complained but there was nothing we could do - plenty of steak to go around and we all got our fill anyway). The medium was pretty pink and closer to med rare I'd say.

The whole thing wasn't cheap but not crazy - probablly around $140 per person with wine and tip - we got a lot of food and wine.

As for ratings, I'd give it a solid "8" out of 10.

QFT

i was at float-away-cafe in atlanta and ordered the hanger steak rare and got a wtf-look from the waitress. I wanted to throw my spoon at her...stupid gash

wiki support: "The hanger steak is very tender, but has an intense flavor, and is best marinated and cooked quickly over high heat (grilled or broiled) and served rare or medium-rare, to avoid toughness."
