Help How does the line work in baseball?

Hey I have made plenty of football bets and understand the spread in football the -3 etc. Well i have never made a baseball bet and was wondering does it work the same way? Specifically a sportsbook has Oakland +1.5 does that mean oakland gets 1.5 runs. So if oakland lost 2-1 i would still win with spread? Im looking to bet on the afternoon game so quick help is appreciated. Thanks
