i was hoping, as i'm sure others were, that party would change their mind now that stars and others have stated they will continue to service u.s. customers. it doesn't look like that is going to happen. i sent an email tonight asking why they are the only major online poker site pulling out of the u.s. market. the following was the reply i just received.
Dear xxxx, The reason we will not be accepting deposits and wagers from US players is listed below: If signed into law, the Act will immediately make unlawful the receipt by a gambling business of proceeds or monies in connection with 'unlawful Internet gambling'. The Act does not clarify US law regarding the type of activities that constitute unlawful gambling. However, as the first piece of Federal legislation dealing explicitly with Internet gaming, it does make clear that the US government intends to stop the flow of funds from Americans to online gaming operators through criminal sanction to the extent that Federal or State law applies to the activity itself. The act also asserts that, under US law, a wager must be permitted under the laws both of the customer's place of residence and that of the operator. PartyPoker.com will at all times, respect and abide by the law of the land. Zameer PartyPoker Customer Care |

I think a lot of this has to do with Party's Casino and side betting inside of poker client, from which they are probably making a buttload, but are way shadier than poker as far as the new law goes.

partybets will be going live next month too..
even so, it would be very stupid if they sacrifice the us market for partybet and partycasino... (both would have to swing more than the us market without the us market playing them, ie not f-in likely) |
