FWIW I fired up party earlier today.....some stuff used ports 80&443 which would be re-routed using a proxy, but they also used another port while checking for updates as well as when connecting to tables. I'm feeling less comfortable that a proxy woud be a viable solution, even if you had a remailer/etc.

This is a bit of a hijack, but I find this much more interesting. Were you looking at proxy servers with the intention of allowing someone to play from a country that banned online gaming?

Couldnt you use a proxy for everything?

[/ QUOTE ]I have a feeling they are wise to using proxies. On disassembling the clients, I've seen strings hinting they have methods in place to detect and block proxies from working.

Probably hard drive serial # IMO

Net-card's MAC address would be another likely target (used quite often in machine identifier code in other apps).

Shhhhoot thanks juk, I wonder how they could tell if someone was using a proxy to redirect or just using a proxy as part of their lan?

Does anyone play at work or anything through a proxy that doesnt actually block PP?

Anyone ever played via a VPN?
