Default Wong Kar Wai in a class of his own

I have not seen any JLG films to who he seems to be often compared too, but I cant think of another Asian(or Western) directer who tells a story the way he does. Tarantino said that Chungking Express made him want to cry because he loved it so much. That is the way I feel about all of his movies. He manages to get so much out of his actors. I love the unconventinal pacing of his films. I love the camera angles he takes. I love the colors. I love scenes where characters go off screen.

Any suggestions for similar directors?

In The Mood For Love is a masterpiece, and it's (semi) sequel, 2046 is very good as well.

Beat Takeshi (sp?) does some very interesting work as a director. Try 'Violent Cop'.

Who is JLG? Also I will have to check out this Wong Kar Wai... I thought it was the dude who directed Hero and I was about to say Hero licked balls story-telling wise but then I looked him up on IMDB and didn't recognize any of the movies.

I will second the Kieslowski suggestion.

3rd the Kieslowski suggestion. You should also check out some JLG films. I would strongly recommend Breathless and Band of Outsiders.

You should try out some movies by Antonioni. WKW lists him as one of his greatest influences. Start with L'Avventura -- if you like that check out his other work in that general time period.
