Re: Good riddance, Tower Records

[ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] Yeah, pretty awesome that 3,000 people are going to lose their jobs so that a liquidation company can come in and suck every last penny of profit out of the company. [/ QUOTE ] Boohoo. Any jerkoff community college student picking his nose behind the register while stamping customers' parking validations can get another job just like it within three days of Tower closing. [/ QUOTE ] And any intelligent, successful poker player can go get a job working in an office. I guess its a good thing the online poker world in the US is closing also? [/ QUOTE ] Tower Records is closing because of economics. Online poker is being shut down because of politics. |

Re: Good riddance, Tower Records
[ QUOTE ]
Gogogo - wtf are you talking about? (Either post you made.) PJ - I kind of liked Tower back in the day - there was one at like 4th and Broadway in NYC I went to all the time circa late 90s. Seems like they started to suck hard soon after. Pretty Good Summary of What Went Down -Al [/ QUOTE ] My first statement relates to what is said in the article you posted. The company was going to be purchased by another music retailer who would have kept the profitable Tower stores operating. However the company that evetually won the bidding will liquidate everything. My second comment is that just because the employees of Tower will likely be able to get new jobs, does not mean this is still not a tragedy for them. They are all getting laid off, including all of the managers, officers, as well as every employee in every store. The fact that they will be able to find a new job is irrelevant. |

[/ QUOTE ] Did you read my post? I said they could get another job just like it. That is, they can pick their nose and validate parking at Best Buy, Virgin, Barnes & Noble, etc. How is that at all analogous to going from online poker to working in an office? Jesus. |

Re: Good riddance, Tower Records
[ QUOTE ]
Within 8-10 weeks, every Tower Records in the country is going to close. Good. Does anyone like this store? I'm not crazy about Virgin either, but at least they run a better business. Sayonara Tower. [/ QUOTE ] The Tower Records in the French Quarter of New Orleans sold and rented porn dvds/vhs as well as porn mags. I definitely went there more than the Virgin that was a few blocks away. But then again, now I use Sugar DVD (like netflix, but porn). So, nope, don't really miss it. |

[ QUOTE ] LOL still-buying-musicaments [/ QUOTE ] I think this whole "aments" thing has kind of jumped the shark. OOT mods can you start cracking down please? I hate to think of BBV tards spilling over into OOT. [/ QUOTE ] When I first started hearing donkaments, I hated it w/ a passion. But over time it has grown on me, like bad chin hair. I chuckle now everytime I see them for some reason . . . possibly b/c they're just so annoying, I can't help but smile. |

[ QUOTE ]
Adapt or die. Claiming it is sad because people are going to lose their jobs is a horribly misguided economic fallacy. In the short term I agree you, it will suck for those workers, but in the long term those workers will now be able to (in theory atleast) contribute something more worthwhile to the economy. That is good. [/ QUOTE ] I just love arguments like "it's good for the economy!" any time somebody loses their job in a failed business venture, as if economic viability was the only important thing people should factor into their lives or feel good about. You take it even further - we can't even claim that it's sad. Do you think the guy who loses his job and has 2 kids is going to go home and say to his family "but hey it's okay, losing our only source of income was good for the economy. Adapt or die baby, that's my motto."? It must be nice living in your own little world of cold economic realities and spiteful rhetoric. You must be a wonderful person to be around. I'm sure you contribute greatly to the world. Let us know how you get on when you reach the world the rest of us live in. |

Re: Good riddance, Tower Records
Suffering a layoff isn't necessarily a bad thing. Between severance and unemployement low level workers can often come out ahead financially. Worked out for me when I lost my warehousing job back in the day.
