Within 8-10 weeks, every Tower Records in the country is going to close.

Good. Does anyone like this store? I'm not crazy about Virgin either, but at least they run a better business. Sayonara Tower.

Yeah, pretty awesome that 3,000 people are going to lose their jobs so that a liquidation company can come in and suck every last penny of profit out of the company.

I think this whole "aments" thing has kind of jumped the shark.

OOT mods can you start cracking down please? I hate to think of BBV tards spilling over into OOT.

[/ QUOTE ]

Exactly not what mod-ship should be about imo.

Boohoo. Any jerkoff community college student picking his nose behind the register while stamping customers' parking validations can get another job just like it within three days of Tower closing.

Seriously, businesses failing is what keeps the economy going.

Bad ideas need to disappear to make way for good ideas.

Music Retailers still exist, and not every Tower store was unprofitable. The company sold for $150 million. A bid was placed for $500,000 less which would have kept the profitable stores alive.

And any intelligent, successful poker player can go get a job working in an office. I guess its a good thing the online poker world in the US is closing also?

Gogogo - wtf are you talking about? (Either post you made.)

PJ - I kind of liked Tower back in the day - there was one at like 4th and Broadway in NYC I went to all the time circa late 90s. Seems like they started to suck hard soon after.

Pretty Good Summary of What Went Down

Buy you have to see that the future is in online distribution. B&M music stores can't compete with the convenience, and price benefits retailers like Itunes and Amazon offer the customers.

At some point in time, something better will probably come around and replace those two businesses. They will have to adapt, get better, and be able to compete with their new competitors, or they will likely suffer the same fate as Tower Records.

Adapt or die.

Claiming it is sad because people are going to lose their jobs is a horribly misguided economic fallacy. In the short term I agree you, it will suck for those workers, but in the long term those workers will now be able to (in theory atleast) contribute something more worthwhile to the economy. That is good.
