these poker sites dont want to be associated with taking bets from a country that its lawmakers have declared that online gambling is prohibited. Im not siding with these sites and i would welcome this country allowing online gaming and passing it into law here. With the recent arrests of gaming associates along with this recent law many have decided to move on and not take the chance.

Could someone clarify this for me: Why would a site (eg PartyPoker) actually ban players? I mean what they do has already been illegal for years (i.e. taking online bets). CEO's have already been indicted and/or arrested on racketeering charges, so how does it help these sites, which are based overseas, by banning players. They've already broken the US Law anyways!!

[/ QUOTE ]

Most people here seem to miss the point. It's not the new legislation alone or just because it's illegal, because it basically always was. It's because the sites are worried that somehow they'll to use the new law to put them in jail. If it wasn't for the sportbook guys getting prosecuted none of the sites would be leaving.

I agree the sportsbooks arrets have made them concerned, but i also think the fact that the usa passed a law has made it a deterrent.

In this thread you say

Online poker is not illegal in the US.

[/ QUOTE ]

In an earlier thread you say
[ QUOTE ]
It is certainly illegal to operate an online poker site in the US.

[/ QUOTE ]

Which is it and why?

[/ QUOTE ]

It's a reading comprehension test. You didn't do well, unfortunately.

It is a strange thing abot the laws of the US that it is not illegal to play OL Poker but it is illegal to run a site on our shores.

Take this fun bit of example. It is illegal to sell fire works in Pennsylvania, but it is legal to set them off. While in Ohio it is illegal to light off fire works but it is legal to sell them.

This creates a symbiotic relationship between the states. There are hundreds of laws in our country that have seemingly contradictory statements.

Another: While murder is not technically illegal in the US, each state has taken it upon itself to ban murder. It is also illegal for states to cross each other's lines to extradite offending murderers, however, they are allowed to hire bounty hunters to bring back the offending criminals.

It is also not allowed for the Federal government to assign a legal drinking age, however the age went from 18 to 21 bacause the government told the states that they would no longer recieve federal funding for roads if they did not increase the legal drinking age.

It is legal for minors to have consensual sex with an adult in many states, but pediphilia is a federal offense, etc, etc. etc.

All in the name of checks and balances, I guess.
