i thought the article was actually surprisingly well-written, for the most part. if he had written an identical article about a bill that did not include poker (and did include horse racing and online lotteries) i would mostly agree with it. i'm all for personal freedom, but as a country i don't think we need a lot of people dumping money overseas playing online roulette. flame away.

[/ QUOTE ]

it doesn't matter if you think people should be gambling online or not. that's not what the big picture is about here. people in this country find countless ways to waste their money, and it's not the government's job (at least in this country) to police that. people in a "free" country should be able to spend their money how they like. i would expect government regulation of things like this from china but not from the land of the free.

[/ QUOTE ]

This adminstration has been doing that from day one. Now that it's directly affected you I'm sure you'll notice.

We have two choices in this country. Either vote for Republicans or Fascist. That's where we are. You can thank your country for continuing to blindly support the Fascist (I mean Republican party).

[/ QUOTE ]

the fact that this administration has been doing it doesn't change anything. it's still not their job to police this sort of thing, and it still does not matter whether people think online gambling is good or bad. just b/c i dislike smoking doesn't mean i think it should be banned, and i would be furious if it did get banned.

With this, I disagree. He didn't use any cites, and he didn't back up any of his arguments. I'm used to reading articles by Senators Dorgan and Conrad as well as Representative Pomeroy in my area, and they ALWAYS use cites and they ALWAYS back up their arguments.

Frist backs up his arguments by pulling alleged "experts" out of his ass without telling us who these "experts" are so we can question them. My high school English teach would have given this one an F.

As we have seen over the past 2000 years, Religion Can Be Dangerous

[/ QUOTE ]

FYP

Why 2000, is this Christian bashing? Because some religious radicals do something all members of that religion are painted with the brush?

Oh, and to steal from my NRA stuff, people with religion didn't stop us from playing poker, people misusing religion did.

[/ QUOTE ]

why 2000? The Crusades? The Salem Witch Trials? Religious zealots have been a scourge on mankind for centuries. It goes back farther than and extends beyond christianity as well. I do agree with you that its people misusing religion and not religion itself. There would be something else to misuse if it wasnt religion.

If Jesus were alive today, I'm sure he'd say, dropping bombs on people is ok, but this online gambling has got to be stopped!

Have any of you actually visited the LEGAL US BASED HORSE RACING WEBSITES that Bill Frist and his republican crowd has said is just fine to wager on? I have zero interest in betting on horses because you can't win in the long run but I was very curious about them, so I searched some of them out and what I found made me so mad I could scream!! If you go to the horse racing websites (like youbet.com - I'm not spamming them - DON'T BET ON HORSES YOU WILL LOSE) and check them out on the first page they say in big letters "US BASED AND LICENSED" Damn it all to hell how in the hell can you have a LEGAL US BASED WEBSITE where you can bet thousands and thousands all day and night on horses running around in a circle BUT you can't play poker or play a freaking $5 sit and go! This is so crazy and makes me so mad! I just hope that the WTO or someone with some power will point out the pure insanity of the US gaming stance! .

If any of you visit these damn US based horse racing sites and check them out I bet it will make you mad as well. Damn.

(P.S. Don't bet on horses! At least until we can play poker too damnit!)

[/ QUOTE ]
Horse handicapping is eminently beatable. Now most people don't beat it but some people do make their living doing it. Its a lot like poker although slightly less beatable.

I love the expression "pro-family movement" . Puts the other side in a predicament. I don't think the "pro-fun" movement can beat the "pro-family movement" politically. I don't even think the "pro-freedom movement can beat the "pro-family movement".

I work in an end of the toy industry where we had 1 incident of a toy injuring a child out of millions sold and there was no talking reason to these zealots. A recall was enacted that almost put our whole industry under. It seems in the name of protecting the children, every other consideration pales in comparison. Maybe our best arguement is the poster above who, instead of playing at home with his family now has to spend the day away from them, at the casino, to pursue his favorite hobby.

And I laugh at any one who says that the American people aren't stupid enough to elect this guy president. Look no further than the mental midget we now have in office. Among other things, he was able to convince a substantial number of people that 2 war heroes were unfit for office and that his 'service' in the armed forces was patriotic.

May I please play online poker until I get one? Pretty Please?

Once Frist is president, he'll assign you a family.
