Re: The Amish know forgiveness
They also are excommunicated from the family and are never spoken to again if they chose another path. Not exactly admirable.

Re: The Amish know forgiveness
[ QUOTE ]
I've always respected the way the Amish don't force their kids to follow the lifestyle/religion. They set them free at 18 or something and the kids usually go wild for a year, then it's up to them to move back in and follow the faith or leave for the secular world. [/ QUOTE ] Gee Wiz. It always amazes me how these things get screwed up. It's join the church or get disowned by family and friend, period. I'm from an amish community. My grandfather was amish. There's not much that's cool about it. I have the hardest time not being racist against that group. A lot of crap there...course, they're people like me...so a lot of crap bound to be around. |

It is clear to me that the Amish, like all people have some major problems with their society, and the willingness to shun their family and friends is probably the biggest example of it. It is also clear to me that there is much good about them (and these stories confirm that). I would love to hear what you have to say about the Amish, but I also recognise that the view of a disgruntled ex-Amish person is not unbiased. |
