What's funny is that not only did the winning bidder bid $127, but the second-place bidder bid $126. So, at least two people bid over face value. Weird.
The only thing I can think of is that someone wants to buy something from Amazon, and doesn't have a credit card, bank account, or checking account. So the only way for them to purchase something is to use a gift certificate -- maybe they intend to pay for the gift certificate using a money order. But this doesn't really explain it, since there are so many Amazon certificates on eBay that (s)he surely could've found one for 90-100% of face value. |

If every criminal could convert $127 of stolen value into $100 of legitimate value, they would do so every time. |
