Default Tax question

If I play online and have no other form of income can I still file a rec gambler or must I file as a pro gambler and pay 10% SE tax? I have basic expenses like rent, etc and I go to school full-time.

It depends.

It's all about the numbers. In your situation, I would guess that it's EV+ for you to file as a rec gambler.

There is no requirement that you file as a pro gambler... you may choose to do so, if it is to your advantage.
