Thanks for all the info on this thread.

What cardroom has the softest competition in the limit games from say 9/18 to 30/60 range?

What cardroom has the best availibility of those 9/18 to 30/60 games? Thanks

[/ QUOTE ]

Commerce.
$9-18, $20-40, $40-80.
Typical weekend evening means
Eight $9-18 tables going
Six $20-40 tables going
Not sure how many $40-80, but more than one.

The $9-18 and 20-40 are ridiculously easy. $40-80 seems very aggro....beatable games but probably huge swings. But I don't have any experience playing in the $40-80.
Hollywood Park, Hustler, Hawaiian Gardens, and Bike also have games in this range. The $15-30 at Hollywood Park is sick aggro/loose. Lots of gambling in that game if you have the stomach for it.

Wow thanks for the info. I was under the impression it was pretty far in to East LA. In fact I live right off the 405, just south of where it meets the 105, and the 105 is always empty, so this should be easy drive. Really I have just been 21 for such a short time, and got comfortable quickly w/ a casino pretty near to me, and I'm trying to see if I'm doing well yet and have falsely tried to keep my competition similar to try to determine that. I'm about 1/2 way between the Hustler and Hollywood Park, but even I haven't checked out Hollywood Park yet because of the reasons I just mentioned. It's almost like I have some fear to go to some place then get beat up bad lol. I just need to get out there and start seeing all these places. I'm definately checking the Commerce this weekend.

I live in Redondo and have been to all the local casinos multiple times this year (60 trips so far). By far the worst low limit play I have seen is at Hawaiian Gardens. I haven't had a losing session there yet after 6 trips. The players are truly awful. The place is a dump though, everything is shoddy and it's a zoo.

I play regularly at Hustler though just because it's physically the best casino around.

PS- PokerSlut, your member # is 6969. Awesome.

I always thought plain old 69 was way too complicated, prefering 6 then 9 (or 9 then 6). But the thought of 6969 is just too much to deal with.

Unless you are driving during rush hour the commerce is not an hour from hustler. more like 20 minutes. Take the 110N to the 105E to the 710N to the 5S and you are there. Check out mapquest or such for more precise directions (you may not be able to get from the 710N to the 5 S). That sounds like a lot of driving but actually most of those freeway slots are pretty short.

[/ QUOTE ]

Getting from the 710 North to the 5 South is complicated since the freeways run at angles and there is no direct exit. Since you have to take surface streets anyway and won't be on the 5 freeway for long its better if you just avoid the 5 freeway altogether coming from that direction.

So...from the 105 East to the 710 North exit East on Florence if you want to check out the Bike - it's right on the corner. To continue on to the Commerce stay on the 710 freeway and take the Bandini/Atlantic exit. It's a tricky double exit but follow the signs and stay on Atlantic. Atlantic will cross the 5 freeway after about a mile or so. As you cross the 5 freeway take an immediate right onto Telegraph (a commercial road that is directly adjacent to the 5 freeway). Stay on Telegraph for about a mile or two (you will see the Citadel Outlet mall on your left, the 5 Freeway will be clogged as usual on your right). The Commerce is about a half mile past the Citadel, you can't miss it.

Directions to Commerce:

105 East.
710 North.
Exit Washington. There is no 710 N offramp to the 5 south.
Take Washington appx 1 mile and go under the 5 Fwy.
Turn left.
Commerce is on the right hand side.

Going home:

Turn left out of Commerce.
Take a right onto Washington.
710 South.
105 West.

[/ QUOTE ]

If I saw this I wouldn't have bothered with my Atlantic Ave variation. This will work find, the key is not to bother getting on the 5 freeway. The going home part looks a bit complicated for a newbie, I'd really go to Google Maps and print a reference because its really easy to make a wrong turn, you could even end up with a "Bonfire of the Vanities" type experience. Just FYI, because I play at Hustler so much I tend to know what limit games they spread even though I don't play in them very often. They don't really have a game equivalent to 9/18 there. They spread 6/12 and 15/30, but nothing in between that I am aware of. I don't play it regularly, but I have sat in both games on occasion while waiting for a seat in the NL game. 6/12 is a total donkfest. Lots of loose passive players who will cold call raises preflop with offsuit connectors and then call you down with middle pair. They quickly run out of chips and rebuy short over and over again, chasing almost every hand. A good game will have 2-3 players at the table all doing this, and then 4 others who will call with any two preflop thanks to "pot odds", then fold on the flop when they miss. 15/30 tends to be a bit more aggressive in my experience, but it's still pretty soft.

Boy, did the producers of the movie ever screw up a good novel. Morgan Freeman as the judge! Harumph!! Bruce Willis and Tom Hanks. Ouch. Maybe the worst casting ever. Sorry for the hijack.
