Re: Top 5 Film OSTs (Original Sound Tracks)
I'm thinking original means the songs were written (or most of them) for the movie, so Ry Cooder kind of owns this.
Crossroads The Long Riders Paris, Texas Streets of Fire (score by Ry Cooder, some songs written by Tom Petty, Stevie Nicks, Jim Steinman, performances by Ry Cooder band and The Blasters) and what the hell, some variety; Eddie and the Cruisers, by Beaver Brown. (so I'm old, wtf.) |

Re: Top 5 Film OSTs (Original Sound Tracks)
HALLOWEEN, because it revolutionized the horror film, and the music was no small part of this. Also, props to John Carpenter for composing and playing the music entirely himself, and then passing it off as the psuedonymous Bowling Green Philharmonic.
Love to hear if anyone agrees/disagrees. |

Yann Tiersen's soundtrack to Amelie should be considered. [/ QUOTE ] Agree, although a lot of the music was pulled from Tierson's previous work so it may not qualify as an OST. For those that aren't familiar with this work, go to Amazon and click on the samples. My favorite is "La Valse D'Amelie (piano version)", but the whole soundtrack is great. ~ Rick PS My own favorite is The Last Of The Mohicans, with "Promentory" perhaps being the best song. |

How on earth has no one mentioned The Mission soundtrack by Ennio Morricone and the London Philharmonic Orchestra? Another nomination is the soundtrack to the 1992 film Hardware (MARK 13), a low budget British post-apocalyptic sci-fi. You can check out the mp3s on this fansite.
