Could you tell us more about your final days? Your BR was never above 35K, ever? That has to be stressful.

how do you get put onto facial recognition lists without being a cheater? [/ QUOTE ] I got nailed probably the first week they had the acursed things. I was counting. I have never cheated. It was amazing. I played a few hands one night and got lucky pretty quick. I got some heat, so I boogied. I went back the next day on a different shift, and I was shuffled up on immediately in a double deck game. Six months later, ditto. Eighteen months later, ditto. The computer never forgets. The casinos have no sense of fair play. Who thought they did? Counting, cheating, whatever. Neg EV is neg EV. They used to break legs for counting, so barring and shuffling up ain't so bad. |

Heya,
Thanks for all the kind words, I just expected some entertaining abuse. It's a 65 degree morning in the smokies (Asheville, NC) and we just made some eggs. It's funny, going broke was fairly stressful, but actually being here is not so bad. semsorok - Sorry, I'm not going to elaborate on my TJ stories, I regretted writing even that much after I posted. I mentioned it to describe how much time I've spent on craps tables, not to dog on the guy. I got the nick zooey from the Salinger novel, Franny and Zooey. I didn't realize it was engendered until I had already gotten used to it. FastPlaySlow, nubs, Little_Luck, FULL RAKE - Details, Details. Let's see. Well the reason my BR never broke 35k is twofold: I'm a lazy man and/or I'm not that good. Lazy enough to play hundreds of thousands of 15-30 hands at party without any rakeback. I regret it, I paid a staggering amount of rake. I had losing streaks, and then I would put in long hours. But when things were good, I worked less than 50 hours a month. Partly because the whole point of no Job is no Job, and partly because I gradually got very bored with poker, starting in about 04. I liked grad school when I was getting my MS, so I decided to go back. I had a losing streak over the summer of 05, (after dropping a few grand on a very nice European trip)and entered school with about 18k. Losing streak continues, and classwork precludes more than 100 hrs/mo. I also spend too much, keeping nice lifestyle. Entered spring semester with 5k. Realized in Feb that although I want to do something besides poker, I'm decided I didn't really feel like staying in school till I'm 40. The last 6 months have been very boring. Working just enough to survive at ever lower stakes. My win rate hasn't even been that low. (Can a conscious player lose at WPEX?)I've played less than 18k hands a month. I think I just wanted to be forced to change. jfish - Thanks a bunch. But never throw money at a failed gambler you don't know personally. People fail for a reason, and I don't think you do them any favors by helping them out. The exception being of course you can help yourself out if you can stake them and trust/watch them, but still, its rarely a good idea in my experience. And yeah, I was a card counter. I did that while I was still working, 97-99. I only started playing poker after I got backed off at my then local casino Turning Stone. They opened the poker room summer 99 and I never seriously played BJ again. I still would count down a shoe or two until I got glared at at the end of a poker trip, but nothing beats BJ for extreme variance and tedium. Thanks again, zooey |
