Re: Less well-known songs from famous bands
The first thing that came to mind when I read this title was Radiohead's awesome b-sides. They're pretty well known but some casual fans might not have heard them. My top 4 are (in no order)
Big Boots Worry Wort Where Bluebirds Fly (schizophrenic electronic song, not for everyone) Talk Show Host I think all of these have been released with singles etc. and some are regularly performed live. Somewhat related, John Mayer has an amazing acustic cover of Kid A (the song). I didn't like Mayer before I heard this, and I dont really listen to him still, but this cover is amazing. |

Re: Less well-known songs from famous bands
most of the Rolling Stones - Exile on Main Street
this album is considered their masterpiece, and there are only a few 'name' songs on it. other great ones are: Torn and Frayed - awesome Casino Boogie Let it Loose All Down the Line (although this one is well known) |

Every song on Physical Graffiti by Led Zeppelin (except for Kashmir because it's well known)

Re: Less well-known songs from famous bands
This thread is a great concept but OP's nominations are kind of blah.
Yeah, Exile on Main Street is awesome. Rocks Off, Rip This Joint, and Happy are a few of my favorites, as are the last three tracks-- Stop Breakin' Down, Shine a Light, and Soul Survivor, although I have no idea which are better known than others. I have a hard time in a thread like this because I almost always grab full albums, and I rarely listen to the radio, so I have no idea who's well known and who isn't, and (more importantly) which songs of theirs are particulraly highly regarded. To name two bands who came about or became famous in the last couple of years, my favorite Franz Ferdinand song is "Jacqueline", but I have no idea if it was a single or not. My favorite Modest Mouse song is "Dark Center of the Universe". |
