Re: Best album of 2006 -- September update
[ QUOTE ]
All this thread reminds me of is this classic from The Onion... 37 Record-Store Clerks Feared Dead In Yo La Tengo Concert Disaster [/ QUOTE ] Hahahah I remember reading this when it came out: [ QUOTE ] I haven't seen this much senseless hipster carnage since the Great Sebadoh Fire Of '93," said rescue worker Larry Kolterman, finding a green-and-gold suede Puma sneaker in the rubble. [/ QUOTE ] [ QUOTE ] "These people are simply not in the physical condition to survive this sort of trauma. It's just a twisted mass of black-frame glasses and ironic Girl Scouts T-shirts in there." [/ QUOTE ] Oh and what KBZ said. If it were actually kind of a pain for me to check out bands I've never heard of, these lists would be kind of pointless for me. But it's easy, I use and like Rhapsody (although I do get a free subscription holla). -Al |

Daryn,
Your analogy makes no sense. Cheers, KBZ |

again.. my ONLY beef with the whole thread is the title! i am liking my analogy more and more actually. it's like if i posted BEST RESTAURANTS IN THE USA 2006, 1) thai place down the st. from me 2) jimmy's pizza 3) taco shed etc. etc. and then imagine some people that live in my town chimed in and were like, yeah! that place is awesome.. have you tried frank's chicken and ribs? oh yeah, that [censored] is excellent!! that is fine for a discussion, but should that thread really be titled BEST RESTAURANT 2006??? [/ QUOTE ] Your analogy doesn't work, because in your example the only people who know about and have access to a restaurant are those in the town. When it comes to music, these bands are being written about in national publications and showcased on MTV. Also, everyone with a working internet connection has access to the music for free. |

daryn,
As far as best U.S. pizza place goes, Tony's NY Style Pizza in Northern Virginia definitely takes the award. Cheers, kipin! |

Re: Best album of 2006 -- September update
Daryn,
As others have already said to you in this thread and in the past, these aren't obscure or local-only bands. These are bands who are known all over and in many circles are known as coming out with the best material. If you don't want to look into or seek out music that isn't what you're calling "mainstream" that's fine, but realize that your hating on threads like this is primarily a result of that choice and nothing more. [ QUOTE ] and then imagine some people that live in my town chimed in and were like, yeah! that place is awesome.. have you tried frank's chicken and ribs? oh yeah, that [censored] is excellent!! [/ QUOTE ] Your restaurant analogy is extremely off. Again, these bands that people are listing are not limited to local followers and are not obscure at all. |

Re: Best album of 2006 -- September update
Daryn, your analogy is way off, here is a much better one:
This is more like someone spending a lot of time researching what all the good restaurants in a city are, eating at each one 2-3 times (some many more times) and then making a list of the 10 best restaurants in the city. Some might be big, popular, well-known restaurants... but some might be smaller, local, less well-known restaurants who are loved by their smaller customer base. I use city as an example because no one could do this with food on a national level. For nationally released music, its pretty easy to find out about what new albums might be good. |

Sunset rubdown's "shut up I am dreaming"
Really the only album that's stuck with me this year, though the tapes 'n tapes cd was pretty good too. |
