Default Do AC adapters have any wiggle room?

I have a cd player that requires a 4.5v adaptor. I only have a 6v and 3v. Would either of these work without ruining the device? It's borrowed so I can't [censored] this up.

edit: Also, does anyone make quality variable voltage adapters? The two I've had burned out after a month or two of heavy use

yeah as long as it's not a permanent solution, the 6v will work.

The 6v will be fine. Devices like this generally have a regulator in them that will take a range of DC voltages due to the unreliability of a 4.5v adapter (they produce 4.5 volts under some set load, more voltage under no load, less if overloaded). As long as the 6v is providing sufficient current. You will not break it by trying for sure. Eh, I took one semester of basic circuits 4 years ago but I remember this much, I think.
