Verizon is generally better in terms of connection quality and such...but it depends on area a ton and Verizon will be the most expensive (not hugely more but more). The other issue is that all companies have essentially the same issues so you can easily be happy or mad no matter what service you get.

I should probably mention, though, that I work on Verizon advertising....

I've tried Verizon, Sprint and Cingular (along with other companies now merged with those).

Verizon has arrogant useless customer service.

Cingular has rollover - well well well worth the money.

Sprint can give you good deals if you know how to bargain for them.

Verizon has free in-calling to other Verizon phones and everyone I know has Verizon. My usual bill looks like

Night/weekend: 545
In-calling: 720
Real Minutes: 100

I even added my family (mom, dad, and brother) to my plan for only like $50 month more total and combined we don't break the 700 minutes that is the lowest level.

Also, I live in Brighton, MA and go to school in Newton, MA. In my apartment, my cell has full service. Friends of mine get NO service in my apartment. At school, most people have to go outside or to a top floor to make a call, but mine works fine from almost everywhere on campus.

TIP: If you go Verizon, do it online. You get free shipping in like 2-3 days, more things in stock, and best of all, all of the mail-in rebates at stores are instantaneous discounts online.

My wife spends hours talking to her family for FREE on their Cingular phones. Adding her mother to our plan for $10 a month might be one of the best financial decisions I have ever made.

BTW - I live near Philly and Cingular's coverage is good.

They all suck. Sooner or later, you'll be pissed off no matter who you pick.

I work for a major wireless company.

The only thing that matters is your network, and that depends on what market you're at. Verizon will be much better in X. Cingular will be the best in Y. T-Mobile will be the best in Z.

Ask around. Or buy one and use it in the areas you frequent. Most companies have a week or two grace period.

Don't skimp on the phone, they do make a difference. I'd suggest Nokia, as they generally have the best RF packages.

Howard Forums is the 2+2 of wireless.
