Default Self inflicted Insomnia?

I've always been the kind of person who stays up late often and loves the nighttime, but recently it is becoming a problem. I feel like I just don't want to go to bed, regardless of what time I have to get up the next day. The only way I can even get to sleep before 4am is smoking pot, which I do a few nights a week to keep myself halfway rested.

I end up pulling allnighters at the local casino and sometimes just don't sleep for a few days at a time. Not sure what to do at this point, but I'm sure its not healty. Has anyone else dealt with this problem?

I have had the same sought of issues for the last 10 years. The only time I am able to sleep is smoking pot or that I am so tired I just cant stay awake any longer. Poker in the last few years has definelty not helped this situation. For me it is my mind that just does not stop ticking.

I have began a complete overhaul of my current day to day patterns. I am always on the go, I work 9 hours on a computer then I would come home and do the same. There is no way you can switch off like that. Balance, balance, balance!! Boredom is the killer for me, but I have been going to an Eastern Medicine centre and so far have had some good results. I am meditating every day for 15 minutes, no computer or any other mental activity 2-3 hours before sleep. I am also having these Chinese Herbs not for sleep but for general well being. Also exercising 30 mins a day. Yes its a lot but I am hoping to break my patterns so I am prepared to do what it takes, considering I will be living with this for a long time.

So far I have been able to get to sleep within an hour of hitting the pillow but I am still waking too early. Hoping to see some changes in the next 100 days.

Will keep you posted. Whoever thought it would be hard work trying to get sleep the natural way!!

I've dealt with insomnia off and on for several years and the thing that helps me best is fresh air and exercise. Just getting out and walking seems to help me. Melatonin helps as well, but seems to makes me groggy the next day. Sleep deprivation is a tough way to go thru the day. I feel your pain.

I just want to chime in and say this sounds a lot like me. I've been dealing with these issues for about 5 years.
