Or maybe store up VIP tourney credits where a Silver is 1 point, Gold is 3 points and Platinum is 10 Points Supernova is 30 points and then you can selectively enter the tournaments you want.

I no longer enter the Silver (and rarely the Gold) because I don't really care to enter a $2 or $5 tourney with 3000 people in it. I do enter the $100000 end of month freeroll though.
