Default New Poker Chip Set (Advice pls)

I was thinking about taking advantage of PSO's offer for a free set of 500 Desert Sands chips and I was wondering what would be a good breakdown of the denominations. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm thinking of probably playing a 6-10 player .25/.5 NL game or maybe even up to .5/1. Thanks

That's a good offer they have going. I got the Nevada Jacks and I really like them. Your home game is pretty close to mine in limits. I go 100 $.50's, 200 $1's, 100 $5's and 100 $25s. The $25 chips double for .25's and that way we also have some bigger chips for tournaments. The $.50's can be $50.00 and the 1's can be 100. It's a good mix for changing up the blinds at lower levels, as well and the Desert Sands are WAY better than any chip you are normally going to see in most low limit home games.

I won't give you specific advice but having gone through this myself, I share some pointers.

1. I have $.25 $1 $5 $25 and $100 chips. I see no need for $.50 or $50 chips and this has worked out well.

2. At your limits, you probably don't need $100 chips.

3. Start by figuring out you smallest limit like .25/.5. Then your smallest chip will be $.25.

4. Figure out the max buyin. Say it is $50. Thus, in a 10 man game you will need at least $500 total in chips. It would also be prudent to have more than this to account for second buy ins. However, it is acceptable to pay cash at the table for some of the big stacks chips but the cash has to stay on the table and is in play.

Actually, I will give you a specific suggestion:

$.25 - 150
$1 - 200
$5 - 100
$25 - 50

That's just over $1700 worth of chips.

I would make the $.50's to be $500. With $25 chips and $100 chips you don't need $50 chips.

This way for NL tourneys you can very easily have a 10 man tourney for 2500 chips each and 5/10 starting blinds with plenty of room to chip up the 5s and 25s.

With this you can (with 10 players):

1. Play .10/.20 with a $20 buy in ($5 chips become $.05).

2. Play .25/.50 with a $50 buy in.

3. Play .50/1.0 with a $100 buy in.

4. Play 1/2 with a $200 buy in but limited to 6 or 7 players (or $100 buy in for 10 players).
