the tip doesn't go to one person. It goes to the entire staff. You are also tipping for all the other guys who didn't win anything this time. Or to look at it another way, you are tipping for all the times you didn't win but enjoyed their services.

If it is true that there was nothing withheld, then these tips are very poor. Also going back to tip the waitresses $500 while stiffing the dealers is really slimy.

to equate to something in everyday life...

tipping 3% in a poker tournament is like tipping 15% at a restraunt. its the basic standard if the person wanst bad.

tipping 4% or 5% is like tipping 18% or 20% at a restraunt. it should be done if you consider yourself a generous person and the staff did more than the bare minimum of service.

although, it is hard in a tournament to judge how they did since its a pool of people with some doing a great job and some doing a bad job and a bunch of people in between.

i usually tip 4% myself. i think thats totally satisfactory.

the basic thing to know is that tipping 3% is like tipping 15% at a restraunt, it is sufficient to make you not a cheap as^hole.

this is all IMHO

Seriously what's with people so concerned about how much other people tip. Dealing is an easy job with excellent pay considering the amount of skill/education required. With all the tips they got the dealers did quite well for themselves.

Just remember if you win 100K in a tournament and you only tip 1%, people will whine about it on an internet forum for a week. Then they'll forget about it and you'll have an extra two grand... +EV.
