I wanted to get some opinions on a hand I played last night at the MGM. Those of you who frequent the 1/2 NL game there know that it is one of the easier games in Las Vegas with all the bad plays being made. That being said, I'll set the scene.
I've been at the table maybe 15 minutes. The guy to my left is a tourist just there for fun and is ready to gamble, but isn't taking the game seriously. He raises to $10 preflop everytime, regardless of his cards. I find myself in the small blind with AK of clubs with 4 limpers. I call and he raises to $10 in the BB. Everyone calls. The flop is K Q 8 rainbow. The pot is $60. I bet $40. The guy to my left calls. Everyone folds to a guy that had been at the table maybe 10 minutes. I know nothing about him. He goes all in for about $125 more. I went into full think mode. I don't want to put the result of the hand, but want people's opinion on what the thought process would be. I'll tell you that the guy beside me mucked his cards as soon as the guy went all in and they turned face up. He had K 5 offsuit. When he did that, I flipped my cards over and showed both him and the raiser looking for a reaction. I said, "I don't guess you are worried about these cards?" He didn't respond. What is the play here? I had no more information on the table than any of you would have. |

If the tourist is raising to $10 pre-flop every hand, why didn't you reraise to isolate?

If you *know* BB is going to raise those limpers, you can either: 1) limp planning on pushing and trapping some dead money in the pot. 2)Raise here big hoping he calls and all others fold. I don't like your limp/call. - No offense, but IMHO showing your hand before you make your decision 'top get a read' is a real douche move, and is perhaps against the rules depending on the card room. The point is, if you are having this much trouble playing AK, it is doubtful that you are so skilled at reading people that showing your hand to get info is really going to help. It just makes you look like a poser. Kinda like if you sat down with shades, and i-pod, and Full Tilt gear. Back to the hand: The pot is 60 + 40 + 40 + 125 = 265. You are getting 3:1, but this guy is coming over the top with 2 people in the pot. My guess is you are beat by either 2-pair or a set. Would this guy really push a draw here? But 3:1 are really good odds.... |

my thinking goes like...
"Wow I [censored] this up. letting the whole table take a flop when I have AK and a sucker tourist to pay me off. [censored] it. Focus. There's 140 in the pot when unknown pushes for 125 more. He limped in. It's HU in the [censored] 1/2 game at the MGM. I have 85 to call a 265 pot. I have TPTK. One of the Kings is dead. Would he push with a trash K or worse here? AQ maybe? JT on a draw? whatever it's 3:1, I call." |

Shove preflop the second time around PLZ. [/ QUOTE ] Absolutely. Almost a guarantee that you win right there or isolate vs. a random hand (BB) with tons of dead money in the pot. And yes, I love that MGM game. Comfortable room. Food comps. Bad players. Yum. |

I'm not defending my play preflop. Everyone was trying to get at this guy who was raising every hand, so I thought a good flop would really disguise my hand. The postflop show my cards was a terrible move that I regret now, but that needs to be seen in context. I needed information. I had none, having been at the table so short a period of time. I got the info I needed. That's not the point. The point was, how many times do you see this and what does the guy usually have. I know what he had because I saw it. I just wanted to see what people thought having only the info I had at the time.

I stopped reading when I saw the part where you limped to him and then did not push when he raised and a bunch of people called.
WTF. WHY did you see a flop with any money left here? I seriously don't get it. |
