Default I have an ethics question....

The scenario is NL Holdem for any situation; cash game, tourney, high or low stakes, it doesn't matter.

I'm in the BB. The Button open raises 4xbb, both blinds call. The flop comes and SB goes all-in. Let's say it is a significant raise of at least 50xbb. In other words, the raise is high enough so that pot odds are approaching 1:1 so a decision to call will be based on whether you think you have the better hand or whether you are better than a coin flip to make the better hand.

However, as the BB you have to worry about what the Button is going to do. Let's say you have the SB stack covered by a bit but the Button has you more than covered. You are definitely at risk.

When faced with a tough decision I like to get information from my villain. I'll check him out, ask him to count his chips, make out-loud guesses at what he has, etc. But in this particular situation, I really want to know if the flop hit the Button and what he intends to do behind me.

I have thought of jokingly asking the dealer if I could allow my fellow poker to "play through" and act before me. If I paid attention to how the Button reacted to my comment I might gain some information.

As well, if the Button was a cool guy he could smile and make a motion with his cards to muck them. I would appreciate that very much.

So did I raise a valid ethical dilemma or is all this hog wash?

are you basically asking if it would be okay to let the button act before you?

If I was the SB I'd take you outback for a swift nutkick for crap like that. Hell, even if I wasn't in the hand I might give you a nutkick.

Listen guys, who'd really making the ethical mistake here? The BB for asking, or the button for telling? I see people make a folding motion out of turn all the time. Would you fault the BB for looking to the left before making a decision? Would you critisize him for acting on what he saw? It's really the button's job to keep his future action to himself. As a professional poker dealer, I hope all of you will keep that in mind when you have a hand you know you're going to fold. (I hope my disclosure of being a poker dealer doesn't serve to discredit my opinion too much :-)

That's what I'd do, is make the motion with my empty hand and smile. After you go all-in, I'd follow you in and flip over my aces, or would that be an ethical issue?

If you pull that BS I hope someone smokes your butt....

Being a cool guy, that is exactly what I would do.
Then when it was actually my turn to act, I would go all-in.

After the hand and I am finished stacking all your chips into my pile, I would give you swift kick in the nuts.
