Why would a set play this way?

Arturius,

Do you like his play if had a big draw? Are there any hands that you like his play with? Also, whether or not you like it, what range do you give him?

i think he has flushdraw or 37 for bottom 2pair. 89 w/ no flush is unlikely.

I would call, but I think against a good villain (he is ok, pretty decent I guess) you need to be aware that they can easily have a huge hand here like a set hoping you think they have a draw and call. I would definitely make this play with a set on occasion.

[/ QUOTE ]Well, if you are a regular you should occassionally make the big overbet on strong made hands to vary your play. That said, if you haven't seen Villain make this play before, the call is easy.

You have it backwards. If he rarely does this its probably a very strong hand.

I find my opponents beat me into the pot when I do this with a draw (results: I don't improve), and fold when I have a set.

So just imagine you're playing against me, and do accordingly.
