The set-up:

It's about 10:30PM on a Saturday night when my friend and I visit the local poolhall. We drive there with his car (a BMW 318i) and park it in the parking lot near the complex. When we leave the car we make sure that the car is locked, the trunk is shut and the windows are closed. An hour or so later when we leave the poolhall we go outside and find that the car is still locked but the windows are half-open and the trunk is also slightly open. We look inside the car and nothing seems to be stolen or messed up. No vandalism.

Relevant information:

The car key is one of those remote things that work within a 30 meter radius and it has 3 different buttons: 1. open car, 2. close car and 3. open trunk. Only a wall separated the car from the table at which we were playing. During the course of our game my friend leaned on the table and may have unintentionally pressed one of the three buttons of the key. Judging by the fact that the cd in the stereo had not moved forward from where we left it and that the steering wheel hadn't been moved we assume that the power in the car wasn't turned on at any point. The windows in the car can only be operated when the car is on (there's no manual control, only automatic).

The question:

wtf just happened? How on earth where the car windows half-open when nothing had been stolen or vandalised and when the car was still locked?

On my maxima if you hold down the unlock button on the remote for a certain amount of time it rolls down the windows....Could that be it?

this is standard on 3-4 different types of cars that i've used the remote key on

it's happened to my car before and startled me at first

i also have a maxima though. if this bmw doesn't have that feature though, i'm gonna go with haunted car.

hold down unlock for a few seconds on my gf's accord and the windows go half down. trunk is another easy button press.

Yeah pretty much all newer cars have the unlock-windows down feature as far as I know
