Default Roughing the Kicker

Is there any football fan that actually likes this penalty? Why does this thin, scrawny douchebag get special treatment of when you can hit him? For protection? The game at the higher levels is played at a million miles an hour and hitting as hard as you can is encouraged. The only guy on the field that actually uses his foot in football is the biggest pussy on the field.

No one wants to see their team get a field goal. Wouldn't the game be more exciting to see guys actually rushing after the runt on a punt or field goal trying to block it a majority of the time rather than sitting back and being defensive?

I'm ranting, but I'd like to hear your guys thoughts on this insane penalty.

This is retarded.

Very few teams dress two kickers - if guys are allowed to run into the kicker, they'd do so every time gaining a huge advantage when he is injured.

Why do you care if the kicker gets hurt or not? He assumes the same risk that everyone else does that plays the game.

If you properly attempt to block the kick, you will rarely hit the kicker.

attempting to respond is futile.

Understood, but the fact that this penalty exists keeps teams from going after the punt in tight situations.

If they took this penalty away, teams would have to dress an extra punter/field goal kicker. Every other position on the field has backups except for kicker. It'd a waste of a roster spot and mostly a waste of time.

Excuse me Mister 9500 posts. The point of a message board is to strike up a discussion, not to try to end the thread as soon as possible.

So you would prefer...what? Defensive players be able to level the kicker for no reason after the kick has been made?

The major problem is punters diving to draw the penalty, not the rule itself.
