I thought this might be fun. So, tell us who your favorite players were when you were a youngster, where you lived at the time, and if it applies, why you liked an athlete(s) from a different part of the country.
1987, I lived in Indiana. NFL Walter Payton NBA Larry Bird MLB Dwight Gooden I absolutely loved Dr.K, just everything about the way he pitched. It's a shame how bad his career turned out. All time favorite athletes Payton, Bird, Griffey jr. So not much has changed. |

Lived in Seattle, born in LA. My favorites were Barry Bonds (I had a really cool baseball card of his), Nate McMillan (I dunno why, but he was cool), and Detlef Schrempf (awesome name). I was born in 1986, so I was 10 when the Sonics were badass. I didn't follow the NFL that long ago.
I don't like Bonds anywhere near as much as I did then, but he's #1 on my list of best all-time. McMillan is still one of my favorite basketball players. |

I grew up in Northern NJ, and my favorite athletes in 1980 were:
NFL: Jim Zorn and Steve Largent (I've been a Seahawk fan from age 6 :-( ). MLB: Dale Murphy and Bruce Benedict (from the Atlanta Braves, since I got TBS and probably saw 140 Braves games a year) NHL: Barry Beck (NY Rangers) |

NFL: Joe Montana
NBA: Clyde Drexler MLB: Will Clark My favorite athlete was Bill Musgrave who was the quarterback at Oregon. I bawled my eyes out the UCLA game that year because it was the last time I'd see him as a duck. At the time he had pretty much every Oregon record and was one of the best pac 10 quarterbacks ever in terms of stats. |
