Default How long do you keep magazines?

To keep myself motivated in thinking about moving out of suburbia (East Bay) and into the city (SF), I am beginning a clear-out of all the crap that has collected in my house. One headache is what to do with 6+ years worth of magazine subscriptions.

-How long do you keep magazines?
-Does it vary by genre (Mens, Home Improvement, Hobbies)?
-If you do not keep them, what do you do with them?

If you were to keep articles of interest, that would involve re-reading a huge amount of material - probably not worth it.

Certain key volumes should be kept for posterity and perhaps future value (50th/100th etc editions, older mags such as FHM Kylie Minogue, Carmen Electra etc) which you can easily tell from the cover.

Some of my own examples:
Men (Maxim, Stuff, Cargo, FHM, Esquire)
Home Improvement (maybe 8-10 different woodworking/DIY titles from my early homeowner days, e.g. This Old House, Metropolitan Home)
Hobbies (Remix, Electronic Musician, DJ)

Obviously 'adult material' is never a problem.

If you get rid of them, dont throw them away, give them to a library or something. Most librarys sell used magazines and stuff.

Id get rid of them all....be honest with yourself? Are you ever gunna really reread any of them? Having old maxxim issues laying around for posterity looks really lame, are you ever gunna get an old issue out and spank to it anywya? You can get all the pics online.

If you go through all of them you are gunna waste HOURS, and its all prolly for not, just donate them and be done with it and use the time u saved for better things.

i have this same problem. when i move, 1/2 of my "books" are old magazines (always free) that i have accumulated through the years. i always think i'm going to look at them again, but that's just crap. throw them out.

That's not a magazine. That's reference material.
