How many hands per hour in a typical casino game?
Just wondering about how many hands you see an hour in Omaha 8b. I remember last time each hand at showdown could seemingly 1 minute to sort out the winners, especially with a couple of the dealers that weren't too bright.

well in Tx. holdem it seems that 35 is average. so omaha must be considerably less thatn that. maybe 20??!! I do not play in casino's though, so just a guess. dam, that would suck to play live

icemanjmw - The casinos have shuffling machines now, which speed up things a bit.
You're right about some of the dealers being obtuse, but most of them do a fine job. However, you do have to be alert to the pot being awarded incorrectly. I think roughly thirty hands per hour is a fair approximation. Buzz |

Re: How many hands per hour in a typical casino game?
Loose-aggro full games can be as slow as 20 hph. I have seen fewer than 10 hands per dealer in my regular game. I think the best dealers might get 15 hands in if there are a few scoop hands and a few hands that don't go to showdown.
Shuffle machines would improve on this. (Sigh!) Effen |

The casinos have shuffling machines now, which speed up things a bit. [/ QUOTE ] Not all of them. In fact, at Tulalip in Washington, every table but the Omaha table has shuffling machines. In terms of speed, its up to the dealer's competence. |

anything over 25 hph is decent, over 30 and you have competent knowledgable dealers who have the pot already split before showdown and can pick hi/lo hands quickly with accuracy.

on a side note, anyone do anything else while playing omaha hi-lo live, since the game is so slow? like read a book or something? i've tried to play it live, but always get impatient and play too loose since i usually multi-table it online.

I think roughly thirty hands per hour is a fair approximation. [/ QUOTE ] You may get to (or surpass) thirty hands per hour at a tight higher limit game without many showdowns. At a small or medium limit game with a lot of action and many showdowns, you will rarely get to 30 hph. (Benefit: Much easier to go to the bathroom during O8 without missing a hand.) |
