Fallows and Vampire hold the Outright British Land Speed Record of 300.3mph.

Seriously? All someone would have to do is take a top fuel dragster and make a few normal passes and they'd have that beat.

LATE EDIT: I'm an idiot - just realized it would most likely have to be timed over a flying kilometer or mile in opposite directions. Nonetheless the number still seems low.

Too bad about Hammond. When I'm in Europe I enjoy the show on BBC World.

don't know for sure, but i'd guess the problem with land speed records in the UK is the lack of places to do one. No salt flats or other wide open spaces really suitable. I think the distances required for modern attempts make it too difficult.

“It was upside down and Richard’s head was dug slightly into the ground. The roll cage had buried in the grass and his head was pushed in the soil."

Good to hear that he was conscious and coherent at the scene, albeit briefly.

I just watched a tape with TG's recent caravan adventure...so funny and now so sad at the same time.

This is awful, Hammond was a quality presenter on the best show on TV and always seemed like such a good bloke. Why does it always happen to decent people whilst [censored] like Prince Naseem walk away unscathed when they drive like idiots.

Hope he makes a full recovery.
