They would also get us out of Iraq lickety-split.

[/ QUOTE ]

Very strange... you actually believe that the military wants out of a military mission?

What's your point?

[/ QUOTE ]
My point is that there is plenty of firepower in this country to bring down the government or stop a military coup if we wanted to. The Iraqi insurgents had a lot less in the way of weapons than Americans do and the Iraqis have their government on the brink of collapse even though only a minority supports the insurgency.

[/ QUOTE ]

Perhaps true. But you missed the point of my (admittedly hyperbolic) comment. To which your image is an irrelevent reply.

I edited my post to reflect your larger point: that the Democrats are not strongly anti-gun any more. I can't think of any candidate that has had an anti-gun platform recently. You remember the photo op of John Kerry hunting? A quick check of the DNC site reveals nothing about altering gun laws.

I don't know the military well, so I am speaking from a position of some ignorance. But it seems to me that there are many in the military who believe that being useless, sitting ducks in Iraq probably isn't the best policy. But, yeah the top brass probably wouldn't be in favor of leaving any military mission, so perhaps they should be deposed in the coup as well, and we can appoint some mid-level General to become administrator. My scenario is falling apart here!

The Iraqis have fully automatic AK 47s and RPGs.

Also, those of you who think a military coup in the US would lead to a liberal governement are out of your mind.

I never said it would lead to a liberal government. I'm saying it might be able to bring us a democracy that the Republicans and Democrats have destroyed.
